To celebrate the upcoming release of Gurrr!, the Rolling Stones’ 50th anniversary great hits album, the band has teamed up with Universal Music and augmented reality specialists, Aurasma, to create a major AR campaign.
Interacting with fans around the world, consumers can use their smartphones to watch the collection’s cover star, a King Kong-esque gorilla, visit famous landmarks in 50 cities (each one representing a year the band has been in existence) and more than 3,000 locations. To participate, begin by downloading the free application, uView, point your smartphone at one of the included landmarks, and a virtual 3D animated gorilla will appear. At that point you will be given the opportunity to pre-order the album by the app.
Not only will fans be able to pre-ordering the album, users will have the chance to win prizes by taking a photo of the gorilla in action and either emailing it to grrr@rollingstones.com or sharing it on Twitter with the hastag #Grrr! From there, the photos will be published to an interactive wall on the band’s official website and the top 50 will walk away winners.
